At the beginning of this year, the International Carbon Registry (ICR) launched the Carbon Academy as part of its mission to empower individuals and organizations with the knowledge needed to drive effective climate action. With the first course now complete, the Academy has already begun delivering on its promise to make carbon education more accessible, practical, and impactful.

The Academy hosted two courses in the last weeks: Carbon Economy 101 and Project Development 101, welcoming a global audience of participants eager to better understand the mechanics of carbon markets and how to develop high-integrity climate projects. The Carbon Economy course had also a version in Icelandic. These sessions marked a strong beginning for what will become a growing offer of courses designed to meet the public where they are on their climate journey.

Key Takeaways from the First Courses

  • Education is a critical entry point for broader participation in the carbon economy.
  • Participants value clear, real-world explanations and practical steps for applying what they learn.
  • There's strong demand for more easy to access content, case studies, and language diversity in future offerings.
  • Community interaction through live Q&A sessions brought a deepening understanding and encouraging dialogue.
