Accreditation is a strategic tool contributing to economic development through the support it provides to the results or certificates issued by laboratories, certifiers, or accredited inspectors for companies or industries of multiple economic sectors, thus providing a seal of confidence regarding the safety and quality of goods or services. In Colombia, ONAC was designated as the sole national accreditor by the Single Regulatory Decree of the Commerce, Industry, and Tourism Sector.
